The Recall Run
Survive the challenges of IoT development in a unique simulation game.
Pitch

The Recall Run is a browser-based survival game that immerses players in the tough realities of IoT product development. Navigate through real-life challenges like cybersecurity threats, supply chain issues, and regulatory hurdles over five years. Make strategic decisions to keep your device alive while managing your budget and engineering choices.

Description

"Hardware is Hard" isn't just a saying - it is a survival horror game for engineers.

The Recall Run is a browser-based simulation where you step into the shoes of a CTO shipping a new IoT product. Your goal is simple: survive 5 years in the market. Your enemies are real: supply chain shortages, the EU Cyber Resilience Act, aggressive marketing demands, and technical debt.

Unlike standard management games, this is driven by Architectural Consequences. A "quick fix" you choose in Year 1 to save money might trigger a catastrophic security recall in Year 4.

Why we built this

We created this simulation to demonstrate the real-world pain of compliance. Every disaster in the game - from FDA warnings to cloned firmware - is based on actual challenges embedded engineers face daily.

Key Features

  • True-to-Life Stress: Navigate real regulatory minefields like the EU CRA, RED, and AI Act.
  • Cause & Effect: Your architecture choices (MCU selection, security boot implementation) determine if you survive or go bankrupt.
  • Privacy First: A 100% client-side experience. No tracking, no backend database - just you and your anxiety.

Open Source & Community

We built The Recall Run on a modern stack (Astro + React 18 + Tailwind). The entire project is open source.

We invite the community to share their own "hardware horror stories" by submitting a Pull Request. You can add new Disaster Events or Device Archetypes directly to the game engine here: View Source on GitHub
