Civic Nightmare is a browser-playable 16-bit political satire RPG built with Godot.
You play a broke citizen trying to renew a passport in a world where politicians, corporations, technology and bureaucracy have collapsed into one surreal administrative system.
The game combines exploration, dialogue and arcade-style encounters. The main quest takes you through six different machines of authority, with caricatures of figures such as Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Ursula von der Leyen, Vladimir Putin, Christine Lagarde and Emmanuel Macron.
Several encounters are fully playable procedures rather than simple dialogue scenes: blackjack with an “official” result, a 27-step consensus machine, monetary pinball, pseudo-3D administrative combat and other deliberately absurd systems.
Outside the main route, the world contains optional investigations, hidden areas, AI satire, bunkers, nuclear demonstrations, intercepted communications and stranger anomalies.
Civic Nightmare is made for players who enjoy political satire, surreal comedy, retro RPGs and games where the mechanics themselves are part of the joke.
