Dont Let Me is an innovative mentor tool designed for developers and creators who often struggle with focus and task management. This project operates within the Claude Code environment, providing structure to the chaos of daily tasks while helping users align their efforts with their long-term goals.
The mentoring process begins with the command /mentor:init, which engages users in a guided interview. This session, lasting around ten minutes, identifies two crucial elements:
Example of anti-patterns:
- [ship] don't let me build in private forever, waiting for it to be ready
- [explore] don't let me keep opening new threads while nothing is finished
After the initial setup, users can communicate naturally with their mentor, using simple phrases to manage tasks. For instance:
hey mentor, add "ship the landing page" to my todos
hey mentor, what's up?
mentor, what's on my plate today?
The mentor efficiently organizes tasks according to the user's goals and priorities, avoiding overwhelming lists while suggesting actionable steps.
Operating continuously during work sessions, the mentor monitors for tasks listed as avoidance behaviors. It will prompt users when they engage in activities that distract from their goals, ensuring consistent progress. Use the command /mentor:check to get a prompt on alignment with your goals at any moment.
This tool is particularly beneficial for individuals with ADHD or similar tendencies, helping them navigate distractions and complete projects more effectively. It is especially advantageous for those already working within Claude Code, effectively offering insights grounded in users' actual activities.
The mentor keeps user data secure and private, storing progress and to-dos in simple markdown files located at:
~/.claude/mentor/profile.md # Your goals and avoidance patterns
~/.claude/mentor/todos.md # Your configurable todo list
Uninstalling the tool leaves no trace, reinforcing the commitment to user privacy.
For users wishing to integrate the mentor's functionality outside Claude Code, a transferable format is available, allowing adaptation to other environments such as Codex or OpenCode.
In addition, a standalone web application called One Thing at a Time is in development, providing the same principles of focus and productivity in a different format.
Overall, Dont Let Me serves as a practical companion that not only reflects users' objectives but also challenges them to overcome their obstacles, effectively fostering productivity and clarity.
