Diagnose coffee, cacao, and banana diseases offline on Android.
Project details
HealthyCropping is an innovative offline-first Android app that empowers small-scale farmers to detect diseases affecting coffee, cacao, and banana crops directly from their phone. By using advanced computer vision models, the app works seamlessly in areas with poor connectivity, ensuring timely diagnosis and action to protect yields.
HealthyCropping is an innovative offline-first Android application developed to assist smallholder and medium-scale farmers in detecting diseases affecting coffee (Coffea arabica / canephora), cacao (Theobroma cacao), and banana (Musa spp.). Designed specifically for rural regions with limited or no cellular connectivity, this open-source tool enables users to identify early signs of pathogens like coffee leaf rust (Hemileia vastatrix), cacao frosty pod rot (Moniliophthora roreri), and banana black Sigatoka (Pseudocercospora fijiensis). Prompt detection is crucial for timely cultural controls and minimizing yield loss.
HealthyCropping incorporates specialized algorithms for each target crop, including classifications for healthy conditions, various disease stages, and recommended actions based on confidence levels.
This project is actively developed in phases, encompassing planning, implementation, and user testing, ensuring a comprehensive and reliable tool for farmers. Contributions from the community are encouraged, and comprehensive guidelines are available in the repository.
The application is not a substitute for certified agronomic advice or laboratory diagnostics. External factors such as lighting conditions and backend service availability may impact performance.
HealthyCropping is entirely non-commercial and distributed freely as an Android APK, dedicated to enhancing the livelihoods of farmers through accessible technology.
