About this project

MAK4I is an open protocol for packaging, identifying, discovering, and reusing AI artifacts across tools and platforms. It enables knowledge, context, skills, decisions, workflows, and other AI-generated artifacts to remain reusable beyond a single model or session—improving knowledge continuity and reducing repeated AI work.

MAK4I, or Memory, Artifacts & Knowledge for Intelligence, is an innovative open protocol designed to facilitate the seamless packaging, identification, versioning, sharing, injecting, and reusing of AI artifacts across various models, platforms, and organizations.

Key Features:

Reusable AI Artifacts: Package various AI artifacts, including project context, workflows, prompts, and historical decisions, allowing for efficient transitions between AI tools without the need for reconstruction.
Memory Types: Supports three distinct memory types: Procedural (how-to instructions), Semantic (what is known), and Episodic (rationale behind decisions), ensuring comprehensive project continuity across AI systems.
Protocol Design: Conforms to a structured protocol philosophy where the MAK4I protocol stands at the core, with Talvik offering a commercial ecosystem built around it.

Why MAK4I Matters

In a landscape saturated with AI memory solutions, MAK4I addresses a crucial gap: it prevents duplication of efforts across different AI tools. Currently, each tool, such as Claude or ChatGPT, employs unique representations for reusable knowledge, leading to significant computational waste and lost resources. By standardizing artifact reuse within the AI lifecycle, MAK4I ensures a systematic approach to knowledge continuity.

Usage Example:

To utilize MAK4I, one can install memory packs and inject them before initiating an AI session, as shown below:

# Install memory packs
mak4i install company/backend-standards
mak4i install schedovia/context

# Inject before starting AI session
mak4i inject

Proof of Concept

Demonstrating its efficacy, MAK4I's reuse mechanism has been tested during its development, showcasing significant token savings attributed to efficient artifact reuse. For instance, over 38,400 tokens were saved across 29 tracked sessions during the development phase.
