Transform codebases and websites into animated, editable maps.
Project details
Morph Map allows users to visualize the structure of any codebase or public website as an interactive map. Effortlessly plan, edit, and animate changes, making it an invaluable tool for onboarding, system explanations, and project planning. Experience simplicity with just a browser and no installations required.
Morph Map provides a powerful tool to visualize and interact with codebases or public websites in a new and engaging way. By scanning real projects, Morph Map generates an editable map where components are represented as boxes, and connections are shown as arrows. This allows users to explore how different parts interrelate and to model how a project should ideally function.
Utilize Node.js to scan a project directory and produce a JSON file representation:
node scanner/morph-scan.js ./your-project --out my-map.json
Afterward, simply open index.html to import the JSON map.
To map a public website, open it in the browser and run the following JavaScript code in the console:
<insert script here>
This will capture up to 40 pages and create a corresponding map.
Switch to the Planned view to make adjustments, and when ready, press Play to visualize the changes on the map.
The complexity of a project is assessed on a scale from 0 to 100, evaluating size, tangle, depth, and data duplication to derive a comprehensive score. The scores categorize projects into Light, Medium, and Heavy complexity levels.
Morph Map's learning and auditing capabilities can uncover critical insights about codebases and websites, including:
Morph Map has been effectively utilized on various projects, showcasing its practical application and reliability in identifying and suggesting improvements. Examples include the evolution of Express.js and notable public websites.
It’s vital to scan only the codebases that are permitted and to respect the guidelines set by public websites.
Morph Map features a straightforward setup including an HTML application for mapping and analysis, along with scripts for scanning both code and web projects. A directory of examples also accompanies the project for user reference.
Plans for future enhancements include streamlined scanning processes and improved visualizations for complex site structures.
