This project introduces MSB/MIB, a new way to measure what GDP and UBI can’t: the real mobility and lived wellbeing of people in fully digital economies. Built around a single transaction tax, a universal dividend and a mobility indicators layer, the framework turns raw digital traces into actionable insight for policymakers.

Digital Architecture for the Next Generation of Economic Metrics

The msb-mib-gross-mobility project proposes a simple but radical architecture for digital economies built around three pillars:

One Transaction Tax – a single, auditable tax on transactions that simplifies revenue collection.
One Universal Dividend – a recurring dividend funded by that tax, visible to citizens as a single line in their account.
One Mobility Indicators Layer (MSB/MIB) – two new indicators that look beyond GDP and UBI to measure how much people’s lives actually move, and how that mobility is experienced.

At the core of the project are the original indicators MSB (Gross Substantive Mobility) and MIB (Gross Internal Mobility):

MSB estimates the lived mobility of an individual by weighting economic activity with satisfaction signals.
MIB aggregates MSB at the territorial level, revealing where growth translates into real opportunities – and where it doesn’t.

Together, they help distinguish between:

Virtuous growth – investment in education, health, preventive care and meaningful mobility.
Toxic growth – activity driven by debt, congestion, addiction or pure survival spending.
