In the late 1990s I wrote Savitar, a shareware MUD client for the classic Macintosh. It was built for MUDs, MUSHes, MOOs, and other text-based virtual worlds, and over the years it grew into a capable application with triggers, aliases, macros, variables, logging, ANSI support, speech, command history, and world management.
What started as a hobby became one of the most rewarding software projects I've ever worked on. Every release added another feature or refinement suggested by users. More importantly, it introduced me to a wonderful community. Some of the people I met through those text worlds are still friends today.
