ST Reborn is an independent, open-source project that reintroduces functionality to Bose SoundTouch speakers after the discontinuation of their cloud service. With a straightforward desktop app, users can install a local agent on their speakers, enabling features like internet radio and Spotify Connect without relying on the Bose cloud.
SoundTouch Reborn (STR) is an innovative, cloud-free firmware project designed to restore full functionality to Bose SoundTouch speakers after the discontinuation of the Bose SoundTouch cloud service in May 2026. Unlike traditional solutions, STR allows users to enjoy internet radio, Spotify Connect, and manage multiroom settings without needing a Bose account or external cloud services.
Upon installation, the STR desktop application detects available Bose speakers on the network and deploys the agent to the speaker's persistent storage. The agent ensures that speakers automatically reconnect to their local cloud emulation when powered on, enabling a host of features:
STR supports a wide array of Bose SoundTouch products, including:
For a complete list of compatible models, see the documentation in the repository.
STR emphasizes user privacy with no accounts, ads, or third-party trackers. The application functions entirely locally, ensuring that it does not connect to the redundant Bose cloud services. Security measures include DNS pinning and a local TLS certificate to safeguard communication between the speaker and the STR agent.
Contributions to the STR project are welcome, with opportunities for code submissions, feature requests, and discussions on the development framework. Support the project's continued development through donations on the official website.
SoundTouch Reborn is committed to reviving Bose SoundTouch speakers' capabilities long after the official cloud service's closure. Offering local-only control and a user-centric application, STR provides users with a reliable and private listening experience.
