A versatile dual-pane file manager for seamless Android navigation.
Project details
TWIG offers a unique dual-pane interface, housing all storage sources in a single expandable tree for enhanced navigation. Built in Kotlin, it minimizes dependencies while providing native-like performance. Ideal for managing local files, archives, and remote connections, TWIG combines simplicity with powerful functionalities like directory comparison and Wi-Fi sharing.
Twig is a feature-rich and efficient dual-pane file manager designed exclusively for Android devices. By utilizing a unique size-first approach, it allows users to navigate various storage sources—such as local storage, archives, FTP, SFTP, SMB, WebDAV, S3, restic, and Jellyfin/Emby—all presented in a single, cohesive tree interface. This compact application, written entirely in plain Kotlin and devoid of unnecessary dependencies, showcases native Kotlin and XML views without relying on Material libraries.

Every storage location is represented within a comprehensive tree structure that expands inline, enabling side-by-side comparisons and file management without the need to switch screens. Tasks such as compressing files from an SMB folder into a local archive or directly uploading files from a remote archive to an FTP server can be executed seamlessly.
The application is designed with a resource-conscious philosophy, ensuring that the full build remains compact, measuring just 8.19 MiB for the arm64-v8a version. The minimal size means quicker downloads and less storage usage on devices while still supporting advanced features.
Twig boasts advanced browsing capabilities:
Twig includes a variety of built-in viewers and a dedicated music player:
Keep websites as bookmarks within the app, with options for page customization, including JavaScript execution, page style manipulation, and resource blocking for a tailored browsing experience.
Twig stands out as a powerful and versatile file management solution for Android users. Its emphasis on efficiency, intuitive design, and extensive features makes managing various file systems and media libraries streamlined and effective.
